Our History

Serene Health Inc. began in 2013, when founder and Executive Director Maima Quoi Pelham recognized the devastating barriers that rural and low-income Liberians face when trying to access basic health services. As a nurse working within communities, Maima witnessed the preventable illnesses, long distances to health facilities, and the painful reality that many women, children, and elderly people suffer simply because healthcare is out of reach.

Motivated by a deep passion for service and a commitment to improving community health, she launched Serene Health as a small volunteer-driven mobile clinic initiative. The goal was straightforward but ambitious: take healthcare directly to people who need it most.

The organization began by conducting small outreach activities in remote communities in Montserrado County, transporting basic medical supplies and mobilizing volunteer clinicians. Word spread quickly, and community demand grew as families began receiving—often for the first time—free consultations, essential medicines, basic lab tests, and health education.

Over a decade, Serene Health Inc. expanded its reach and strengthened its model through partnerships.

From treating hundreds of people during its early outreaches, Serene Health has now provided services to thousands across rural and peri-urban communities. The organization has grown into a trusted health partner, known for its professionalism, compassion, and efficiency in delivering mobile healthcare.

Today, Serene Health Inc. remains rooted in its original mission:
to bring free, quality healthcare to vulnerable populations and reduce preventable illness and death in Liberia.

As the needs continue to rise, so does the organization’s commitment to serve—and to keep pushing the boundaries of what community-based healthcare can achieve.
